Music notes for the week of March 30-April 3

Kindergarten and First Grade--We continue to improve listening skills by using tonal memory and rhythmic games. Kindergarten is improving their accuracy of pitch with solfege syllables and appropriate songs. We are also using our rhythm instruments to keep a steady beat and provide us with optional parts. We have been singing and acting out Easter songs.

Second Grade--We are now working diligently on our First Communion songs for April 18 and 19. We also will participate in the Monday mass following their First Communion.

Third Grade--We began our Recorder unit on March 3. They have been sounding great in this short time. Some are beginning to play for their belts in Recorder Karate. Please make sure that your student keeps practicing. We will be playing for the Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 5. Mark you calendars!!

Fourth Grade--We are beginning to study the instruments of the orchestra and band. Band students have been bringing in their instruments to demonstrate for the class.

Fifth Grade--We have begun to study Music History. They are presently studying Ancient Music and how music developed during that time period.

Sixth and Seventh Grade--We have begun Music History. Each class will be learning about different times in history and how music fits into that particular time. Grade 6 is working on Baroque Music. They will be having a test next Tuesday. Please make sure they study the class notes as well as the definitions and composers. Grade 7 is studying 20th Century Music. We will do a group project on Chance Music next week.

Choruses--We are preparing for the Spring Concert which will be held on Tuesday, May 5 in the Gym. This will include the Rhythm Band, Recorders, Beginning Band and both the Beginning and Advanced Choruses. Because this is part of their music grade, all students are expected to be at the concert. They should plan to be here by 6:45 PM so that we may start the concert promptly at 7. Their attire should be "Sunday Best"--no jeans, please. Please plan to remain for the entire concert.
