Music Notes for the week April 26, 2010

Music notes for the week of Aprl 26, 2010

PreK and Kindergarten--We continue to improve listening skills by using tonal memory and rhythmic games. PreK and Kindergarten are also improving their accuracy of pitch with solfege syllables and appropriate songs.  We are using our rhythm instruments to keep a steady beat and provide us with optional parts.  We are working on Spring songs and using movement to help our rhythmic skills.

First and Second Grade--In first grade we are practicing listening skills by using tonal memory and rhythmic games.  We are singing Spring songs and using movement as well as instruments to keep a steady beat.

Third Grade--We are  playing recorders at this time.  Each Tuesday and Wednesday (see note below), we are working to become proficient on our instruments.   Everyone is doing quite well.   We have begun Recorder Karate; and students have already started to earn their belts by playing designated songs.  They must play with correct notes, precise rhythm and a good tone in order to receive a belt.  Recorders will perform at the Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 4.  **The students have asked to use both Tuesday and Wednesday to study Recorders so that we are well-prepared for the Spring Concert.  Please send the recorders on both days.

Fourth Grade--The band students have been working very hard and playing for belts in their Band Karate program.  As the students achieve proficiency on their instruments, they are being moved to the Fifth Grade Band.  In Music class we will begin studying the national anthem and its history.

Fifth Grade--We will begin to study the Medieval music (King Arthur and the Round Table) time frame.  Encourage your student to keep practicing his/her instrument in Band.  Our Spring Concert is coming soon.

Sixth Grade--We are watching a movie on the Baroque Period.  A summary will be due when  we finish the movie.

Seventh Grade--We are studying the various styles of American music and how it relates to our music of today.

Chorus and Band students are preparing for our Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 4 in the Gym.  The concert begins at 7 PM.  It is important for all students to be present--everyone is needed to make this a success.  A grade will be given to all students for the concert participation.  Please make arrangements accordingly if you have a conflict.
